SUPERINTENDENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Associate Reflection on the Superintendency
required program component

The individual Associate Reflection is a required program component, written by the associate twice during the SDP year, once in late April (submitted by May 1), and once in late July (submitted by August 1) and posted via e-mail to the cohort faculty, college faculty and program administrator.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

1. While there is no specified length for an Associate Reflection, it should clearly demonstrate to the faculty a high level of self-reflection on the superintendency.

2. An Associate Reflection is considered "past due" two weeks after the due date. When an associate reflection is past due the Program Administrator must contact the associate and note the reflection as "LATE" in the record.

3. An associate should receive a confirmation of receipt from the program administrator and a review of his/her Associate Reflection from the college faculty.

4. On the top of the first page of each Associate Reflection the associate must include her/his name, team, current date, and "Associate Reflection." If a reflection is sent electronically the e-mail subject line must include the same information.

The Associate Reflection is the associate’s self- reflection on the superintendency and himself/herself based on work completed (issues, interviews, special topic sessions, discussions with superintendents, etc.). In the SDP it is tool used by the associate and faculty to assess growth. In the superintendency it is a personal tool for self-evaluation and growth.

The major part of the reflection (80 to 90%) is self-reflection on what you learned about the superintendency. To guide your thinking you may want to consider the following questions (you do not have to answer these specific questions):
